London’s Volunteer Management Charter

London’s Volunteer Management Charter is an exciting initiative to promote good practice.  Launched in December 2009, already 31 of London’s 32 Volunteer Centres and over 70 volunteer involving organisations (VIOs) have signed up, sending a message to volunteers, decision makers and funders that London’s volunteering network has a clear and united position, and aspires to excellence in supporting volunteers.

What’s in it for organisations?

- it signals to your volunteers, colleagues, funders and stakeholders that you’re serious about implementing good practice.

- organisations in London who have signed up to the Charter have access to one of the Experts in Volunteering team to take them through a Health Check.

- joining the growing numbers of VIOs signing up links you in to a wider pan-London community of volunteering experts!

* Signing up to the Charter and completing a Health Check is free.

The Charter has been developed by Greater London Volunteering (GLV) in close collaboration with London’s 32 Volunteer Centres as a result of Institute for Volunteering Research Report: 'Health Check: all fit for 2012?' . It is a clear statement of the key volunteer management areas that contribute to excellent volunteering experiences, and provides assurance for volunteers looking to get involved in one of the thousands of groups that work at the heart of London’s communities.

While the Charter is an aspirational statement, organisations signing up will have access to support in order to achieve the Charter points in their work with volunteers.

GLV’s Experts in Volunteering team will work in partnership with the Greater London Volunteer Centre network to encourage volunteer involving organisations to sign up to the Charter and take advantage of the support offered by the team.
