Volunteers are aware of how to raise a concern, and how it will be handled
The Experts in Volunteering team, hope your year is going well!
This Month the Charter Chatter focus is on Resolving Difficulties; you can still see the previous Charter Chatters online. The aim is to give you a quick tip, information of resources available from our website as well as ask for your support and expertise through our resources wish list. If you'd like to further discuss this month's topic with your peers, visit Association of Volunteer Managers a voice, a network and a resource for Volunteer Managers.
Volunteers are not covered by employment law and therefore it is good practice to have a problem solving procedure specifically for volunteers rather than using the staff grievance policy.
Having problem solving/resolving difficulties policies in place will not only highlight your organisation's good practice but also make life a lot simpler for you if a problem arises.
Ensure your volunteers have access to all the policies that apply to them, this could be online, an office file or in a volunteers handbook.

Policies, procedures and volunteers 29 March 2011 Greenwich
This workshop will take participants through the process of developing a volunteering policy for their organisation, and consider all of the accompanying procedures which are good practice to have in place.
For updated training on this and other areas please check
www.expertsinvolunteering.org.uk as well as the VE Volunteer Management Portal
We would like examples of effective and appropriate problem solving policies and case studies (obviously not including anyones identity) showing where the problem solving procedure/concerns policy was used effectively.
As an organisation, there will be many things you’re already doing well. Why not share them with others via expertsinvolunteering.org.uk please email jennifer@glv.org.uk and if suitable they will be uploaded onto the resource section of our website as examples of good practice.
If you'd like to continue this Charter Chatter please go to the Association of Volunteer Managers with the focus on Have you had to use/ could you have benefitted from a Resolving Difficulties Procedure? Or perhaps you have other issues linked to Resolving Difficulties? Why not get an online discussion going and get support from other Volunteer Managers.
